Do you make so much money that it wouldn’t be worth picking up your wallet if it fell? Seems for some, that regardless of your salary, manners retain their value better than the FTSE

If you dropped your wallet on the ground, how much would have to be in it to warrant picking it up? Thinking of money to time ratio- do you then take the time to thank someone for any small act of kindness? Read on and find that even for the wealthiest in the world, the small things matter.

Analysis Of The Turkish General Insurance Market

Turkey has attracted the eye of a great number of financial companies, for structurally, the underlying drivers are highly favourable on a relative basis. My research delves into the market for general insurance in considerable detail, finding that whilst growth is eminently in supply, the opportunity to generate profit is more elusive. The leaders in the future will be those who are able to develop the greatest underwriting competence at accurately pricing risk at a competitive level.

Games being played in the growth of nations: play your own game

Long term the international economic landscape will be very different, but the future is yet to be written. Developed and developing countries are tacitly playing a series of games and I question who these are favouring in both the short and long term. As multi-national companies continue to pursue growth markets, are they and their national governments fundamentally undermining their future prospects? I propose that developed countries need to re-examine the games they are playing and how they are being played, and whether they should be playing those games at all?

Twitter: changes and business models flutter their wings (and cause a hurricane)

Twitter may be young, but in internet years, is no longer a child, they aren’t a stealth start-up and they aren’t in beta version. The talks about it being as big as Facebook on the social scene (note, in reality FB vs. Twitter stats: 450m vs. 106m users, $13.4bn vs. $1.5bn value.) implore one to expect a little more in terms of setting out their modus operandi/strategy, stakeholder interaction and their services (development thereof). ‘What are your intentions for my daughter?’ I have opinions on all of these, as do you and almost anyone with a keyboard. I should say that I contend that all these points are deeply interlinked. These are my thoughts.

The unanswered question: “ASX-SGX: is the combination in Australia’s national interest?”

06 December 2010

Today a report commissioned by the ASX entitled ‘ASX-SGX: why the combination is in Australia’s national interest’ was published. The report is intended to inform the political debate and will be included in the ASX/SGX application in coming weeks to the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) as they seek prior approval to complete the transaction. Ostensibly independent, the report is anything but.

Can’t be at the party? Don’t be square, you can be there in ‘spirit’!

11 June 2010

If you have ever been unable or unwilling (and feeling guilty) to get to a party or other event and wanted to show consideration, there is a new web-application to enable you to do just that; send alcohol vouchers to mobile phones (for selected venues). How much further can this be taken?
